I am the software trainer for Softek Solutions, Inc. Three years ago we sat in a room and discussed an idea to create an online learning space for our clients and consulting partners. There were several challenges we had to overcome because we monitor electronic medical records (EMR) that contain personal health information (PHI) and we must make sure that we are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Since Softek is a software development company, I have access to engineers and web designers. With these internal resources, we decided to create our own learning management system (LMS), OnTrack University.
Having no prior knowledge of how to create e-learning, we did the best we could with the resources we had. It was a huge success, and we now have 535 enrolled students. What we created was functional and met the basic learning needs of our clients. When we began three years ago, we had no idea that we would grow as quickly as we have. Our growth has caused major issues with overloading the database, which causes the reports function to break, among other issues. The more we grow, the more often things break and keeping up with all the fixes was becoming a challenge. After completing the Information and Learning Technology (ILT) Master’s program at the University of Colorado Denver, I wanted to do it properly.
Using the knowledge and skills I acquired through the ILT program, I now have a team of engineers and web designers working to build OnTrack University 2.0. This website is a brand new LMS to meet our current and future needs which will allow us to grow as large and as fast as necessary and still maintain a stable environment. We should be able to launch OnTrack University 2.0 mid-2017.
Below are images of the front and back of our OnTrack University offerings. I created the content for each of the webinars listed. I present two webinars each month on the same topic to accommodate or clients in different time zones. I also created the content for all of our courses and certification programs. The articles listed were written by subject matter experts (SME).
“Always an excellent presentation with Jennifer at the wheel. Jennifer is clear, moves at a good pace and is engaging with the audience. She is a wonderful presenter.” – Frank
Each of these courses was created using PowerPoint. In 2017, we will start creating self-paced e-learning modules in Articulate Storyline 2. We’ve come a long way in the past three years, and I look forward to seeing our future growth.
Due to HIPAA regulations, I am unable to show the courses I have created. However, I can share with you OnTrack University’s offerings (see images below).
